What To Consider When Booking A Package Holiday
If you’re thinking about going away with your family this year then, of course, you’ll want to make sure that you’re getting a great deal. You’ll also want to choose a destination that will be fun for all of the family. Here’s what you need to think about before making your final decision…
- When did you want to go? Is it important to you to go during the summer when your children are not in school, or can you go some other time of the year when prices are lower and more may be available.
- Perhaps you have a short window of holiday opportunity. Do you have limited time off from work? Perhaps you have other things going on that necessitate you be home by a specific date. If this is true, you must consider how far you want to travel. Spending half of your holiday traveling, just to turn around and come back is not the optimum vacation.
- Where to go…your family will want to be in on this discussion. Is there someplace you’d all like to go that would be educational for your children? It’s fun to practice language skills and learning by doing can be painless!
- What facilities and amenities do you want? A pool or a nearby beach would be at the top of most people’s lists. Aside from those, do you want children’s activities? How about evening entertainment? Proximity to a big town for shopping? You should make a list of what you want before starting your search for somewhere to stay.
- Can you book this trip yourself or do you need a travel agent? It’s cheaper to book online. If you have specific accommodation requests or complex requirements, or if you just have a lot of questions, you may need to hire a qualified travel agent.
- Don’t forget to budget in holiday travel insurance, car rental, parking at the airport (or taxis to and you accommodations to the airport). It’s no fun to come home and realize that you’ve overspent your budget.
- How early do you want to make a booking? You can get some great deals by leaving things to the last minute, but then you run the risk of not being able to find something at your first choice destination. How late you can leave it therefore depends on how flexible you are on where you go.
The only thing left to do is make some decisions. There are many cheap package holidays available at the moment, so there will surely be something out there that is just right for you!
Be Considerate Travelers
Now more than ever we should all aim to be considerate travelers. Traveling can be a trying experience nowadays with increased security checks, baggage restrictions, and crowded planes. Rude or obnoxious passengers just make it more tedious for all of us.
We’ve said all along that you have to be patient and versatile and things will work out. But what are examples of the things that we think you must really NOT do?
To start with don’t raise your voice or use obscenities. Many people believe that the “squeaky wheel” will be one which gets greased. Not true.
It’s usually considerate travelers who get the most help. The airline service personnel we all know give those squeaky wheels just the service that they’re entitled to and no more. Yelling probably won’t get you a first class seat assignment or get that baggage fee waived.
Certainly do not be foolish enough to raise your voice at security… that’s certain to slow you down with more checks…. and slow the line down for everyone.
It’s a bit silly to threaten that you’ll never fly that airline again or stay in that hotel again. The airline agents and hotel clerks have heard that all before. They are doing the best they can that can assist you, and you mustn’t be blaming them… and besides, you probably WILL fly that airline the next time you get a great airfare on them or stay in that hotel the following time you get a great rate…. you are not fooling anyone. You’re venting for the wrong reasons, and so they’ll probably want to help you even less because of it.
We shouldn’t need to tell you not to joke around about guns or bombs or explosives in underwear or anything whatsoever like that. Nobody at any airport will likely be amused… they’ll call the police. Believe it or not… some of this still happens! Haven’t they been reading the news?
Don’t drink too much. You already know that’s true if you are driving, but it also applies when you’re flying. If the agent thinks you’re too inebriated to travel, they can deny you boarding. Flight attendants stop serving liquor to passengers who have had one too many. Sometimes it gets to be a problem.
My husband was once asked by a flight attendant if he would mind changing seats and letting another lady sit next to me. The person sitting next to her was intoxicated and trying to make passes at her. Imagine his surprise when he woke to make another pass and found my hubby there!
Don’t try to cut in line because you’re in a hurry. You don’t like drivers that try this, and no one likes travelers who do that. Considerate travelers don’t leave their manners at home. Remember… “Do unto others…” If you simply behave like your mother taught you to, it can make travel better for yourself and for all of your fellow travelers.
